Google is expanding its AI-powered
editing toolkit with the launch of Video Remix, a new feature in Google
Photos that lets users transform videos into creative, polished clips in just a
few taps. Announced on Wednesday, the tool is powered by Gemini Omni,
Google’s latest AI model designed to generate and transform content from
virtually any type of input.
The addition of Video Remix reflects
Google’s growing investment in generative AI across its consumer products. As
competition intensifies with rivals such as Apple, OpenAI, and Adobe, Google is
making advanced video editing more accessible by integrating AI directly into
Google Photos, eliminating the need for complex editing software for everyday
users.
Available through the Create
tab in Google Photos, Video Remix offers a range of AI-driven editing effects.
Users can brighten dimly lit footage with cinematic relighting, replace
ordinary backgrounds with more immersive scenes, or apply artistic visual
styles inspired by watercolor paintings, sketchbooks, and oil paintings.
For instance, a standard outdoor
clip can be transformed to look as though it was filmed inside a lush
greenhouse, while a dull video can be enhanced with a warm morning glow. Users
can also give their videos a hand-painted artistic appearance with just a few
taps.
Google says the goal is to make
professional-looking video edits accessible to everyone, regardless of editing
experience. Instead of spending hours refining footage, users can create
eye-catching videos almost instantly using AI-powered enhancements.
The rollout of Video Remix begins
today for eligible Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers. The
feature is launching in multiple countries, including the United States,
Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan,
Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.
Video Remix is part of Google
Photos’ broader AI evolution. The app has recently introduced intelligent photo
touch-up tools that can automatically improve portraits by removing blemishes,
enhancing skin texture, brightening eyes, and whitening teeth. Google has also
unveiled an AI-powered virtual wardrobe feature that organizes photos of
clothing into a digital closet, allowing users to generate outfit ideas and
virtually try on different looks.
With Video Remix, Google continues to position Photos as more than just a storage app, transforming it into a comprehensive AI-powered creative platform for editing, enhancing, and reimagining both photos and videos.
