Apple is making Siri feel a lot more personal in the latest iOS 27 developer beta. With the release of iOS 27 beta 3, testers can finally adjust how fast Siri talks and how expressive the assistant sounds features that were previously marked as "Coming Soon" in earlier beta versions.
These new voice controls are part of Apple's ongoing effort to reinvent Siri with generative AI, creating an assistant that feels more natural and conversational. Just like other AI assistants, giving users more control over how Siri speaks is an important step toward making interactions feel more comfortable and personal.
The new settings allow users to fine-tune two key aspects of Siri's voice:
- Pace: Control how quickly or slowly Siri speaks.
- Expressivity: Adjust how much emotion and natural expression Siri uses while talking.
Users can also choose from multiple voice options featuring different accents before customizing these settings. As changes are made, Siri plays sample phrases such as "You have one new message" so users can immediately hear the difference and select the voice that suits them best.
Apple first introduced these customization features during WWDC 2026, but they weren't available in the initial developer betas. With beta 3, they're finally ready for early testing.
Compared to competitors like ChatGPT, Apple's customization options are still relatively limited. OpenAI introduced advanced voice personalization in late 2025, allowing users to adjust not only speaking speed but also warmth, enthusi
asm, friendliness, professionalism, and other conversational styles. Those settings influence both the assistant's voice and the way it delivers responses.
The redesigned AI-powered Siri is also deeply integrated throughout iOS 27. Users can interact with it in several ways, including speaking directly, typing after swiping down from the Dynamic Island, pressing the side button, or launching the new standalone Siri app.
Alongside these AI improvements, iOS 27 beta 3 includes a few smaller updates, such as a refreshed Reminders app icon. However, some beta testers have reported temporary issues after updating, including losing access to the new Siri features or seeing their iPhones re-index data a normal background process that's often required to optimize Siri's AI capabilities.
