Verizon Restores Service After Widespread Outage Hits Millions Nationwide
Verizon service is back online after a massive nationwide outage on Wednesday, January 14, that left millions of customers across the U.S. without connectivity.
What Happened?
The outage lasted nearly 10 hours and disrupted service in major cities including New York, Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, and parts of Florida. Many users reported sudden loss of signal, with smartphones switching to SOS-only mode. Verizon described the incident as having a “very high” impact but has yet to release detailed information about the technical cause.
During the outage, the company kept customers updated through social media, assuring the public that engineers were working tirelessly to restore service.
Who Was Affected?
Around 1.5 million Verizon customers experienced service interruptions. The outage affected both individual users and businesses, preventing calls, texts, and mobile data usage. Many people were temporarily cut off from essential communications with family, colleagues, and other services.
This is the second major Verizon outage in less than a year, following a similar disruption in August 2025.
Refunds and Account Credits
Verizon has confirmed that customers impacted by the outage will automatically receive account credits. The company noted, “For those affected, we will provide account credits. Details will be shared directly with customers.” There’s no need to contact support credits will be applied automatically where applicable.
