Elon Musk’s X goes down for thousands of users worldwide

Elon Musk’s social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a widespread outage on Friday, leaving thousands of users around the world unable to access the service.

Users trying to open the platform were met with error messages reading, “Something went wrong. Try reloading,” while repeated attempts to reload resulted in a never-ending spinning circle.

According to Downdetector.com, which tracks online service outages, more than 74,000 users had reported problems with X as of 8:15 p.m. The majority of complaints — about 56% — were tied to the X mobile app, while 33% involved the website and roughly 10% cited server connection issues.

The disruption follows a similar outage just three days earlier, when reports peaked at over 28,300 issues in the United States before dropping to around 700, Downdetector data showed.

The latest outage comes only days after Musk announced plans to open-source X’s recommendation algorithm, a move aimed at increasing transparency on the platform.
